FAQ
What is water damage restoration?
Water damage restoration returns your property to pre-damage condition after water intrusion from burst pipes, flooding, sewage backups, or roof leaks. The process includes water extraction, structural drying, decontamination, mold prevention, and rebuilding damaged drywall, flooring, and ceilings. We eliminate all moisture — including what's hidden inside walls and under floors — sanitize affected areas, and repair or replace unsalvageable materials. After thousands of jobs across all five boroughs since 1998, this is what we do.
How much does water damage restoration cost?
NYC water damage restoration typically runs $3,000–$5,300, ranging from $450 for minor clean water leaks to $50,000+ for major sewage flooding with reconstruction. Per-square-foot costs break down by water category: clean water (Category 1) averages $3–$4, gray water (Category 2) about 10% more, and black water (Category 3) runs $7.50+ because contaminated materials must be removed. Final cost depends on affected area size, how long water sat, damaged materials, and timing. NYC prices run higher than national averages due to building access challenges and cost of living. Is water damage restoration worth it?
Yes — untreated water damage leads to structural collapse, black mold growth within 24–48 hours, electrical damage, and repair bills that multiply fast. We've seen $2,000 pipe leaks become $40,000 disasters because someone waited a week. Most homeowners insurance covers sudden water damage (floods require separate coverage), often leaving just your deductible. Even paying out of pocket beats letting your home rot from inside. DIYing contaminated water also puts your health at serious risk. We've pulled up subfloors that looked fine on top but were mold-covered underneath. Professional restoration isn't optional — it's essential.
How does water damage restoration work?
We start with inspection and assessment — arriving fast (often within an hour), locating the water source, stopping it if needed, and categorizing the damage by water type and severity. Next comes water extraction using industrial pumps to remove standing water immediately. Then we set up commercial dehumidifiers, air movers, and HEPA filtration for structural drying — this phase takes 3–7 days with daily moisture monitoring. Once dry, we sanitize everything with antimicrobial treatments to kill bacteria, prevent mold, and eliminate odors. Finally, we handle repair and reconstruction: removing unsalvageable drywall, insulation, and flooring, then rebuilding what's needed. We also handle insurance paperwork directly — that's part of the deal.
How long does water damage restoration take?
Timeline depends on damage severity. A small clean water bathroom leak takes 2–5 days for drying and minor repairs. A flooded basement with Category 3 water and structural damage requires 1–3 weeks or more for mold remediation and reconstruction. Drying alone takes 3–7 days minimum — physics can't be rushed. Repairs add days to weeks depending on what needs replacing. The faster you call, the shorter the timeline — water sitting for days means more demolition, more mold risk, and longer rebuilds. You'll know your specific timeline after our initial assessment.
